i was just wondering
when i looked at mobil 1 synthetic oil the 5w30 says its for new vehicles
10w30 is for higher mileage and 15w30 is for high tuned

does this matter whatsoever
and should i be using the 10w30 or even 15w30 since the v6s get so hot
especially during summer?

use the 10W30. Your seals are a bit worn and leaking may occur if you use 5W30. I switched to mobil 1 10W30 and have had no problems

I use 5-30 in the winter and 10-30 in the summer. Mobil was reformulated a few years ago and the leaking issue was pretty much taken care of then.

I've been using castrol syntec for the past while. Which is better, castrol or mobil 1?

I just changed this past week from Mobil 1 to Redline 10W30, experimenting don't you know. Oh, and I'm trying Royal Purple for the first time in the trany also.

it all depends on compression, 10w30 will be just fine for mx3 all season long

theres no need to switch between 5w30 and 10w30 if you use a synthetic oil. normal oil gets much thicker then 10w30 synthetic when its cold. So again stick with 10W30 and you'll have no problems at all

The 5-30 quiets down my lifters a noticeable amount on cold(below 30F) start up as compared to 10-30. It probably isn't harming anything running the 10-30 in the cold, it just doesn't make as much noise.

Ive used both, from my experience, mobil 1 is much better...easier startups, stays cleaner longer, quieter lifters...right now ive got about 500 miles since my last change, and the oil is as clean as it was when it went in...whenever ive changed my oil before it was dirty wayy quicker.

I've used royal purple since my swap. It seems to be a great oil. But it isn't cheap. Must be because of that cool purple colouring they use! :P

Thanks for the info. I already purchased my usual castrol for my oil change tomorrow, so next time I will give Mobil 1 a try since you mentioned it quites it down. My idle has been getting a bit louder and kinda knocky. I find that the castrol doesn't last that long before the knocking comes back on idle.
