My car was leaking oil bad since Sunday & yesterday it died completely. I took off the valve cover and noticed that the bolt that is bolted to one of the cam gears and the shaft is broken off in the shaft. Does anyone know how I can fix this and also if this could be why may car was leaking all the oil? Please help me if you can. Thanks

so if its the bolt in the end of the cam that bolts the gear to the cam, then if theirs a little sticking out you can try to get it out with some vice grips, if not youll have to either drill it out or get a new one.

it might be possable for it to cause it to leak, cause their is a seal on the end of the cam by the gear and if the gear was wobbling then its possable but more than likley it is the valve cover seal if the oil is coming from that area.
i have two sets of cams and gears sitting around that are in great shape, if you want them. ill give them to ya for like 15 bucks pluss shipping. let me know

Thanks Josh, I really appreciate you... I will let you know on the parts you have later today... I have a friend that knows more about engines than I do and he is helping me with it. I have read all the posts that have to do with oil leaks and cannot find anything similar to mine. I have also noticed that you are pretty much the #1 answer guy so I am truly blessed to have your help. If you do not mind let me tell you the whole story here and see if you can help me pin point the leak. ......................I was having a small leak for about 2 monthsuntil Sunday when the oil light came on. I only added 1 quart of oil about a month ago. When the oil light came on it would go on and off when I turned corners so i added a quart and the light when off. When I left the store I could see the drip trail so I figured it was bad. Different people I talked to said it may be the valve cover gasket or the head gasket. When I was driving yesterday the car died, I tried to pop the clutch but it still wouldnt start. After I stopped I tried to start it and it was turning over but the sound was more high pitch than normal. After we took off the vavle cover we noticed that the bolt was broken off of the cam gear closest to the windshield. It is all the way inside so hopefully we can drill it out. Anyhow the oil leake is coming from the cam gear side of teh valve cover but the valve cover gasket looks brand new so we are thinking it cannot be the problem. There is not any oil where the spark plugs are and the radiator fluid is normal. The valve cover is not warped in any way either. I am trying to figure out where the oil was initally leaking from. We are pretty sure the cam gear broke off since I was driving without any oil. Please let me know what you think and if you need anymore info. I should know if we will need the parts after about 4pm CST today. Thanks again and have a BLESSED day!!!
