I just swapped in the KLZE i double checked the connections, I have everything hooked up, but the car wont start. When I turn the ignition it cranks, but never turns over. All the dash lights come on and the tach jumps with out the car even being on and the fans turn on right away. I have spark and fuel is flowing. Can you all please help me to get this working. I am using the K8 wiring harness on the ZE block with a kl36 ecu. I need to get my car up and running. also I need to know how flush is the passenger side axel suppose to be onside the , because it does not seem like it is going all the way in. The bracket along that axel is not matching into the screw housing taht went to the block to secure the axel.

No sure what you mean by it cranks but doesnt' turn over. Is the starter engaging and spinning the FW? If so, next make sure you fuel lines aren't backwards and your getting spark. Check all your ground wires. Use the intermediate shaft from the 1.8L and you won't have a problem getting the axle back in. Keep us updated.

Try to add a few more grounding points. I had the same problem when I swapped my KL-DE. Good luck!

Macen....how much difference did you feel when you put in the DE? Probe engines are alot more readily available over in the UK and I'm just wondering whether its worth the swap?

Big difference! Really worth all the money. I love my car now. 0-100km/h is now around 6.5 instead of 8.5 seconds.

Yes..make sure ur fuel lines are not backwards.
Also make sure every ground that u have is connected..its so easy toi miss a few since there just grounds. I left a ground free once and my car did not start.

Did you ever find the solution to this problem? I just finished installing my KLZE and I have the same problem. Cranks but doesn't start.
Here's what I have installed:
# KLZE 2.5 Engine - from a Mazda Efini MS8 (Fully Rebuilt)(KL31-1A1 & KL31-101)
# Curve Neck Intake Manifold (Polished)- from Mazda Xedos9
# KLZE 5-Speed Manual Transmission - from a Mazda Efini MS8
# KL-31 ECU - from a Mazda Efini MS8
# JE-50 VAF
# Custom MS8 VRIS Solenoid Mounting brackets
# 2001 Millenia Vacuum Chamber
# KL-31 Cams
# Port Polish
# KL 220cc Fuel Injectors
# KLZE 130 Amp Alternator
# Silver, Blue, & Purple Engine Detailing
# Violet Silicon Vacuum Hoses
# SS-Autochrome High Performance Chrome Exhaust Headers
# AMSOIL Oil Filter - For '95 Corvette ZR1
# 3rd Gen RX7 Fuel Pump
# Custom 2.5" Cold-Air Intake
# NGK Iridium IX Spark Plugs BKR6EIX-11
# Millenia Bosch High Tension Leads
# K8 Flywheel
# AMSOIL Series 2000 20W-50 Synthetic Racing Oil (Red)
# Chrome Mazdaspeed Oil Filler Cap
# Mazdaspeed Enhanced Ground Wire Kit
# Exedy Stage 2 Performance Clutch
# Redline MT-90 & Royal Purple Synchromesh Transmission Fluid mixture
# High Flow Catalytic Converter
# Remus Style Dual Tip Exhaust
# Air Conditioning System
# K8 Disty for the time being (switching to KLZE disty with MSD later on)
Here's what I have tried.
-Checked all the Electrical connections.
-Jumpered F/P & GND on diagnostics and you can hear fuel fowing through the injector rails quite well.
- Verified all electrical connections again
- Checked all vacuum connections
- Check for engine error codes by jumpering TEN & GND with LED and resistor (LED remains lit = no error codes)
- Add more Ground connections throughout the engine
- Checked for spark plug spark (sparks just fine)
- Examine spark plugs - Soaked with fuel
- Checked TPS calibration and readings
- Tried K8 ECU (no change)
- Tried purging the cylinders of fuel (peddle to floor while cranking)
- Checked all connections again, again, and again...
I'm fresh out of ideas. I've gone through the troubleshooting guide in the Mazda shop manual and still come back negative. Everything checks out fine. The damn thing just won't start. And no I didn't reverse my fuel lines. I have the line from the fuel filter going to the rear fuel rail like it is supposed to be and the line from the regulator side going back to the firewall. Please help. I need the car and I'm running out of hair to pull out. I'm hoping the engine in the original post is now working and that problem is similar to mine.

- Checked for spark plug spark (sparks just fine)
- Examine spark plugs - Soaked with fuel Now I think where the problem is
- Checked TPS calibration and readings
- Tried K8 ECU (no change) Ref previous note about fuel on plugs - TIMING BELT MAY BE OFF

It sounds identical to something I experienced with my 3.0Lt MPV. The timing belt jumped a bunch of teeth on a very cold morning start-up. I had all the exact symptoms...it was just that everything was out of phase. You may have to remove the belt or at least slacken the tensioner to reposition the timing belt to it's correct spot. Hope this helps.

Well I got it going, kinda... It took some fiddling with cranking it while reaching back and pluging in/un plugging the fuel pump. It kept flooding the cylinders. While running (like a toilet to be specific) it's idle jumps up and down frantically. Can't really rev it past 4K and obviously no power. I'm not sure what is out, I'll have to do some digging in the shop manual but it feels like a combination of miss-firing and TPS. Can't it ever be easy?

According to Noyanusa.. the TPS sensor is the most commonly damaged sensor during shipping/importing Jspec engines. Not too suprising considering its out there exposed and can bang around all over the place or things can hit against it. Keep us posted on how it goes man

Yeah I just tried my K8 TPS on it and recalibrated it. Same problems... Damn it!

Oh and jschrauwen, I just noticed your little red notes on my first posting.
# 2001 Millenia Vacuum Chamber.
-This was because the 2 vac chambers that normally fit on the MS8 and MX-3 intake manifolds don't fit on my millenia intake. So I had to buy one for it from Mazda and install it off the VRIS#2 side of the intake. My Millenia Intake Manifold came with nothing on it.
# KLZE 130 Amp Alternator:
-Sorry I forgot that I put the K8 one in because I need to replace the brushes in the KLZE one.
#K8 Disty
-Depending what the problem is I might have to replace it. I have to research a little more first.
* LED on FEN and BAT+ (I'll have to check into that)
* Timing Belt may be off (don't know how that damn thing could have slipped but I'll have to attempt checking tomorrow.)
