Put 6x9's in the back of the car
i just put 6x9's in the back of the mx-3, so they do fit, with some cutting and fitting.... ![Razz :P](./images/smilies/icon_razz.gif)

i'm not holding my breath personally... i think this whole 6x9 thing is a myth... i've done several searches, made several requests for at least ONE PIC of this, and have never ever ever ever seen it before.... i made a 6x9 template out of cardboard and it didn't look like it would fit--or at least w/o seriously hacking up the plastic panels, in which case it might look goofy... IMO this would outweigh the slight benefit of having 6x9's... this is why i just went w/ high quality Pioneer 6's for all 4 corners... but i'd also love to see this, and i'm not saying i'm doubting that u did it, i've just given up due to frustration since no one seems to have any real evidence that they do fit...JWMX3 wrote:pics?

ok, i can see what u mean by that... but that doesn't necessarily mean that that equals better sound... because by that same logic, the little tiny tweeters would create the best sound because they're ultra sensitive.... guess it depends and what u want, personal preference, and what u mean by "sounding better"neutral wrote:Seems that most 6x9's (compared to 6.5's) offer wider freq response especially on the low end = better bass. Makes sense w/larger woofer. Better sensitivity spec as well w/larger magnets than the 6.5's.

i back markmoore's coment...it is exeedingly pointless to do any work at all to fit a 6x9...and by nature 6x9's suck (oval cone = stress points) besides, who cares? 6.5" are generally cleaner and more accurate ...

I pulled mine apart today, and i am almost sure mazda has re-designed the rear speaker pods through the years. I own a 94 GS, and my rear speaker pods will not , in any way fit a 6x9, there is a steel rod that keeps you from making the hole any bigger on the sides, and the seat-belt mechanism keeps you from making it any bigger at the front. There is also a steel bracket in mine that the stock speaker mounts too. I measured 3 times, it cant be done in my mx3, but people say it has been done which leaves me to beleive it has been slightly re-designed....
Oh and i did not find any pics on the net, but i did find theese....which i think can be pretty usefull......
