B6ME SOHC 16-valve 1.6 litre extractors headers etc

Post by Shin_Gouki »

hi i need your help as you know mazda have 4 variations on the 1.6 B6 engine ( sohc 8-valve, sohc 16-valve, dohc 16-valve FWD & dohc 16-vale RWD (miata/mx5))

i have the one you refer too on this site as the B6ME (same as in 90-93 mx-3)

here is my engine in my car ( ford laser 1990/mazda 323 1990 )
http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/rosscd ... 6/web2.jpg

as you can see i installed a weber 32/36 DGV carburettor instead of the standard asian 2 barrell ( too small )

what i need are some headers/extractors for my engine B6ME-
my exhaust flange patter is the middle one from this pic

when i got to corksort:

they seem to have the 8-valve & 16-valve extractors mixed up ?

any other brands apart from genie for this engine?

carb is s--- hot compared to standard gas mileage is a little worse but i flat foot a lot, i have re-jetted it as well ( learned heaps), performance in 1st & 2nd gear is astounding great top end, this is a common conversion for most jap 4cyl carbed engines as stock carbs are painfully small (my conversion is a 1-off you wont see it anywhere else) engines like mazda E5 you can buy off the shelf adapters but i had to get mine custom done, still lookign for extractors once i have them will set about buying a S/H engine for rebuild + port & cam work.

Looking at the bolt pattern on those headers on corksport, I'm pretty sure at least the one for the DOHC is right. It looks like the one that goes on my car, a 95 RS. The one for the SOHC might be what you need, but I have only seen one SOHC in my life so my memory might be off. All I can confirm for sure is that the one they show for the DOHC will definatly fit the DOHC. I haven't found any other companies that make headers, and I don't like the design of the genies, so I'm doing a probe conversion myself.

BTW, what kind of car do you have that had the B6ME carburated? I have only seen one newer car with carbs, and that was a 99 model civic that some guy put dual carbs on. But yours sounds like it came with a carb from the factory.
It might be slow, but it's not a civic!

those are the only headers that I have found that aren't custom made.

did you see the pic of the exhaust flanges i posted your DOHC pattern was the top one right?, my SOHC pattern is definately the middle one as i have checked the pattern & measured it per diagram. looking on corksport they either have the models or pictures mixed up i believe

my the engine B6 sohc 16-valve came out in japan and new zealand in a mazda familia or 323 cars from 1990 to about 95 they have B3 B5 B6 sohc 16 valve carby engines the same car also has option of the B5 16 valve dohc and BP dohc as well as B6 & BP sohc and dohc ( confused yet ? ), the engine was also in the ford laser (use totally mazda parts but slightly different styling) 1990-1993 GL which is what i have

all dohc engines are fuel injected some sohc engines are efi as well - so many variatons exist

please remember we are talking about the b6ME (90-93 mx-3)engine here NOT the BP 1.8 ( different but similar patterns ) both headers are for 1.6 b6 engines ( 16-valve sohc & dohc )

these are what corksport say are the dohc headers note 5 bolts on top row which means it really the sohc header

Image

this is what they say is the sohc header note six bolts across the top + 1 bolt dead in the middle ( dohc pattern )

Image

i swear they have them round the wrong way
