Aftermarket Neon Headlights into Mx?

Post by BuGS »

Has anyone thought of getting some rally syle headlights like these

Ebay

And then adding some fiberglass to round them out to the same size as the MX-3 Headlights?? I thought of this the other day and i would think it would be way better to have dodge parts on my car then Honda.

neon lights suck, and it would be too much work to rework them like that

The projector Rally style suck??? I would think they would look pretty kewl after you mold them to the shape of the MX-3 Headlight. I don't think it would be that hard to do with some practice with fiberglassing. Just use some marine text. and Polar Flease like when you make a sub box. But besides ugly anyone think it would work?

i think its a good idea... not sure why they are ugly.. you will just be making them fill out our lights... i talked to my body shop guy about it he was a little unsure of the idea... he wants to just take two lights and mold them into mine...

I think that these would look cool. Ford Focus may be a bit easier to mold as there would be less space to fill. And if you get the real Hella ones then you already got great optics to go with the cover and do not need to replace those horrible aftermarket H3 based cheapies.

personally.. i wouldnt put those in... its more work than the civic ones... and i dunt think they will look as nice... and they are more expensive too... well if u are trying new stuff or to be different... then thats worth a try... u might also consider the 04 miata headlights ... ford focus ones.. or the clear gts clear lens..

It was just a thought. But The only problem with the Focus Rally Hella projectors are they are $700. And it only costs $400 for the hellas... So if i was going to go Hella it would be all custom. anyways...

I've seen Focus Hella set (the real ones) go for about $300 US. You just have to wait and find. If you would buy projectors separately, you would pay $54 per unit and you would need four. You do the math. Focus set comes with wiring as well. About $50 value. Even if you would end up paying $400, it's still a good deal, considering how easy it is to convert those low beam H9 units to D2S (HID) and still fill any cop out there that they are DOT legal.

Clayton,

Focus Hella set comes with Hella 90mm units. Hella 90mm units come in two varieties of H7 for Europe and H9 for US. H7 and H9 being the type of bulb they use. Well, Hella 90mm units aslo come from Hella as HID units as well, utilising D2S capsule. D2S is just a code name like 9004, H1, H4, H7, H9, etc The funny thing is that Hella uses the same body of a low beam projectors for H9 and D2S applications. It's very easy to convert from halogen to HID with a cheaper H9 projector from Hella $54, rather than getting actual HID projector from Hella for $450 or so, but includes bulbs and ballasts. The great thing is that H9 projectors are DOT legal, so if you have an H9 one sticking out of your headlights, and if you go through an inspection, they can't argue. But that same projector is marked H9/D2S, do if you convert to HID (D2S) they would not know. Just show them the markingd on the unit and they can't say anything. It;s just not everyone wants to throw $1000 on DOT legal HID lights, so people get H9 units, buy some capsules and ballasts and viola at half the price and legal beam patterns. I know you looked into Hella units before, so I thought that may be useful for you.
