Transmission going crazy

I just bought a 93 mx3, 1.6 4 cyl.
For some reason when I floor the accelerator pedal, the transmission acts as if it went into neutral....the rpms go up but it never shifts down.
Can someone give me a hint?

Sounds to me like it is acting normal. Arn't AT's supposed to gear down under heavy acceleration so the engine hits a higher rpm band? You say it doesn't drop into a lower gear, but rather acts like it is neutral; does the car continue to accelerate during this?
