Hey Shaun I'm guessing around 4 inches?
Using a hack saw looks like the only way to go

I think you'd be better off keeping it in the car, taking it out just seems like more of a pain in the butt?
Unless in your limited supply of tools you have a disc grinder, then you're set! :D
good luck!

I've cut it one week ago... What is important is to keep about 1 inch from the bottom of the shifter. (I don't know if you understand very well) Because when you throw the shifter it is going down a bit. So with an inch on bottom you will be ok.

If your talking about the hold button you can either just go without the feature or buy a button and mount it somewhere else.

the shifter as it travels down the shift gate gets shorter, if you cut too much of the shaft off you wont be able to get all the way down the gate.

I don't know about the MOMO knobs, but I have gone through like 10 different shift knobs (auto and man) that just wouldn't fit the car. THe one I use now is a manual knob (pushed down to shift). I got it at Wal-Mart. It's the only one I have found that fits the car right out of the box. Like I said, I've never tried a MOMO knob...
