It's august... Corksport Show n' Shine Trip info

Post by RoundTop »

Ok, so Corksport is having their show n' shine on the saturday of labour day weekend (the 4th).

This has been confirmed with corksport. So..here's the deal, unfortunately one of our illustrious leaders, Kevin, can't make it, so I'm putting together a team of a few good cars...

Looking at leaving vancouver around 7am-8am or so and head to southcenter to meet up with our WA crew. Then a run for the border...the border to Oregon that is. Should be at corksport by 1pm or so.

So... still haven't figured out a location for the meet up in vancouver yet, or where/when at southcenter...but I want to get people thinking about this.

If you want in, please let me know via PM here as well as where you are coming from (eg: if we have a lot from richmond, richmond is a better area to meet, ditto for surrey).

Also, if you know any other mazdas who want to come with, sure..if they can keep up.

With regards to the border, you need either a birth certificate and DL, proof of citizenship and DL, or passport (current).

Hope to see tons of you there.

I hope you're not planning on giving the RCMP or WSP a chance to pull over a line of MX-3's they way those VW idiots got pulled over recently..

That aside, I'll have to check with the family, but I might be up for it.. will PM ya if it's a go
{sigh} Time to move on
Out with the old: Tropical Emerald MX-3 GSR (KL-DE)
In with the new: Phantom Blue Mazda3s GT

Nono..not a reason for cops to pull us over...

Just that they need to be capable of 70mph (that is roughly 110-115 in kph) for decent stretches of time.

So no scooters XD.. or beater 323s from the mid 80s.

Actually, driving down to Portland we're going to see an average speed of about 85mph. I usually like to travel I-5 from 80-90mph (129-144kmph). Our MX-3's are capable of a lot more than this so there shouldn't be any problems. And you're right... No scooters!

OFFICIALLY speed limit is 70 or 60 mph depending on area. I would not recomment going over 10mph over the limit so as not to piss off cops, especially in everett and bellingham.

and a buddy of mine who had a radar detector got busted on the I-5... cop came up behind him when he was going 90 in a 60 zone.

Main thing to remember is a lot of our cars together = tempting cop target.

Hey i am heading down. In Wenatchee, WA so i could meet in South Center. I have the Escort 8500 Radar detector if that means anything to you. It has been the best for 3 yrs. Everything except for pop guns and seattle is the only city that has em and they have 6. But You might want a car that has MPH to lead after you get into the States.

You drive way faster than me dude. It's funny to hear you talk like that. I've been driving in this area the past four years, and I've never been ticketed for speeding. Having a convoy does tend to slow us down a little either way.

Would really like to go, but round top is asking for "good cars", I don't think mine would qualify. It's pretty rough. ha ha just kidding. my magic 8 ball says all signs point to yes, so unless something happens, I am planning the trip. I also plan on leaving after the show and heading back home as I will have to work the next day. just confirm the place and time of the convoy departure for me and all is well.

Thx, Will

I'll be posting more information as we get closer..but general plan of attach is leaving by around 7am from vancouver so we get there by noon/1pm.

Hook up with our washingtonian bretheren at southcenter (or northgate for Mr. Bothell) at the appropriate times.

As usual, if you have an FRS, bring it (So we can hear "COPS! COPS! COPS!") Probably gonna set to channel 9 sub 6 (my MX is a 96, deal with it).

Thinking either to stage from the parking lot of silvercity richmond (where the MX-3 meet was) or somewhere in surrey.

I won't be driving back up on sat as I will be attending Kumoricon as well that weekend.

Oh yeah, almost forgot. If you are definately coming please post how many people in your car (including yourself). I will be sending this info to corksport (they have raffle tickets for those who RSVP, as well as being able to plan food better).
