Carfax and Canadian Cars

I have a down payment on a local (Vancouver) 93 MX 3 dependant on a satisfactory mechanical report.

Apparently it had a major insurance claim in 93, Carfax has 14 records for this vehicle.

Has anyone used Carfax and is the info useful for Canadian registered vehicles?

Thanks.

I've tried it before and it didn't really help me too much. I suppose if they have 14 records then it might uncover something. When I tried it, it just told me my car was registered 3 times.

Just get a report from ICBC. Dealer also may be able to pull some records for you if that particular Mazda was ever serviced or repaired at the dealership. Good luck.

I used carfax for my car before I bought it.

an ICBC report will show exactly what carfax shows (once you pay the amount).

Carfax will report the times it was sold, as well as any major accidents over 1000. It polls the same DB as ICBC does.

This is assuming that if they had an accident that they reported it.

Carfax is not always that accurate with Canadian cars. For example it doesn't show the two accidents I had with my car that were over $1000 in damage.

I just bought a '92 GS in Vancouver and I paid the fifteen bucks for the carfax thing 'cause it said there was 14-15 reports on it.

The 14 reports were the registration and aircare done to the vehicle, needless to say, it was a waste for me.

I confirmed the vehicles history with ICBC and the report was identicle to CARFAX although that could be in part because nothing had actually ever happened to the vehicle.
