im thinking of gettin this size but does anyone have a 55 height on a 15" rim? pics anyone?

they are stock on gs

my tires on my GS are 195/60/15s... and man would I love to have 205/55/15s again..which is what I am doing when I replace my tires.

but yeah, 205/55/15 is the stock GS wheel size

I have some 195/50/15 tires on mine. I think that 55 series would be a better choice though, too much dead air showing. pics are on member profile at mx-west.com

205/50/15 offers better choices in tires, and will give you a bit more gearing...

Hold on...is this for an RS or GS?

Remember, the 2nd number is the percent of the 1st number the sidewall is.

eg: a 195/60/15 is roughly equal to a 205/55/15

To go 215 you would need to think about 215/50/15.

Note: this is for a GS, not sure if the wheel size is smaller for an RS (overall).

But 215/55/15 is too large and speed will not be reported properly.

185/65/14 is the stock RS size.

thats exactly what us GS guys don't need. The gearing is too short as it is.

I like my 205/50 16's...lil bit taller gearing

no...it's not too short. even in a ZE powered GS, if you have traction problems in 2nd, it's because of the tires.

The gearing would be better shorter.

i finnally went with khumo ecsta 711 205/50/15. they ride much better but the skins i had were messed!! and i can feel the control when i take the corners

I got those but in a 215/50-15. They were cheaper and I like the added width.

Anybody know how wide of a tire will fit on the stock 96 GS rim. I think a 215 would fit and maybe even a 225, but are there clearence issues then?

If you would do a search, you'd see 225/50/15 will fit. I almost did this when buying tires last week as it's the same total height so it wouldn't throw off the speedometer, and this size tends to be cheaper than our standard 205/55/15 for some reason. However, I came to the conclusion the 205's already look ridiculously large on our cars. I didn't want to make it look like a ricer clown car.

Well, lets see:
205/55-15 is the stock size on the GS (V6 cars)
There is a huge array of tires to choose from:
V rated performance tires from Kumho (711&712), Toyo, Pirelli, Dunlop, Falken...oh well, a bunch anyway, and at least a couple Z rated (one all seazon - Dunlop). Hit TireRack, search and ye shall find - lots of choices.
So, there is plenty of choice, and lets put it this way - on a stock, street driven GS, you DO NOT need more tire. If the car is pushing, or exhibiting poor handling, check alignment, shape of susp. components, and finally, driving methods.
A MX-3 on decent stock size tires and suspension is an excellent handling car - I would say most drivers run out of skill before it runs out of ability (which is very often the case ).
I recently searched for tires for my 92 GS, and was so pinched for money that I bought THE CHEAPEST tire I could find that would be stock size - a Hercules V3000GT(made by Cooper). Its a V rated tire with aggressive, directional thread...I was afraid that my budget made me make a huge mistake...BUT, these tires are alright: they seem to be wearing well, are a bit noisy on the highway, but hardly howl at all when pushed (and I mean PUSHED!). The dry grip I would say is better than average - I think you would have to spend a fair bit of money to get a noticeably better tire, although there is some tread squirm (brand new tires, street compound and tread pattern). Wet grip is good, but not great - breaking/accelaration is average, lateral grip in turns is fairly decent. And the tread looks great - could care less if the performance was not there, but since it is - bonus!
Just thought I'd share my experience with these surprisingly decent, cheap, cheap tires. Now, if I could only find the right freaking ball joints...
