I am about to lower my car in about 2 weeks. I bought a set of intrax springs and I am thinking of changing my stuts/shocks. I wanna improve my suspension, I was thinking of getting 2 KYB GR-2 struts for 69$(ea) is that a good deal what else sshould I get or what else is recomended for improved suspension and somewhat of a smooth ride

Yah, but check out this thread
http://www.mx-3.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=20&t=000485 about the ZX2's. The KYB GR-2's are only good for a mild drop 3/4 - 1 inch drop or so.

Kind off topic here but i checked out ur site and u say u have 157 estimated HP?? You also say you run a 15.9 quarter mile?? How did u manage 157 HP out of a 130 HP engine?? Just curious..

Oh yeah about the suspension...intrax springs suck.. THey dont lower it very much at all, nobody even noticed it when i had them. I was very disappointed...take them back and get coilovers.

yeah off topic...i got a light weight reduction...also I have a a racing chip advance timing, cold air intake, No catalytic converter (custom exaust),Headers, bigger throttle body.I am estimating 157hp becouse I had 147 dyno before the headers were installed...sound about reasonable?

Tekguy had his heads ported and polished, installed cams, headers, exhaust, intake, ported manifold, etc, and dyno'd 127whp. A stock KLDE will put down 140whp, and he sure put alot more than 1000USD into that motor. Nobody messes with a K8DE because it's so much cheaper to make power with a 2.5L. No replacement for displacement.
If he did allof this and got 127 WHP how can u manage getting 157 BHP? When u dyno'd did they measure ur WHP? Is that where u got the 147 number?? Oh, and what "timing advance mod" do u have?? IS it that resistor that u get on ebay? Dont wanna come off like a jack A$$ but I have a tough time believing that u can get 147 WHP or even BHP out of a N/A, stock internals K8.

Why would you put down a load of money on coilovers when you can get a set of Suspension Technique's and ZX2 Struts?
The ZX2 Struts are 1/2" smaller than the oem struts (this gives you a 1/2" drop). The Suspension Technique lower springs will give you 1.5" drop. Now you’re down to ~2" with about a .5" settlement after a year or so. That's a 2.5" drop!
The ONLY reason I can justify buying coilovers are if you plan to bring it up for the winter and/or race. I warn you though, even on their highest settings; it's still really low.
This is my word against...well, bascially everyone on this forum lol. Don't get me wrong though, they are excellent quality. But if your just looking for the 'dropped and/or slammed look' get springs.
[ February 03, 2003: Message edited by: zytariuk ]

I like to ditto that above thought because 90% of the people I know don't even adjust their coilovers...

Oh, and the reason people want coil overs is because u can lower it more as opposed to any lowering springs ever made for the mx3.

mx3man83,
That's why I recommended the ZX2 struts /w lowering springs. That will give you ~2.5" (with settlement). Why? The struts are 1/2" shorter than the stock Mazda ones.
