I'm not sure if this is what is described as clutch "slippage" but my mx-3 has trouble accelerating in first and sometimes second gear when I let off the clutch in a regular manner.

The only way to get a smooth acceleration is to slowly let up off the clutch in first gear and rev it more than usual, switching to second gear without depressing the clutch completely.

This began happening about two weeks ago and I've been driving like this ever since but it sucks. If I try to accelerate like I used to, basically if I let off the clutch while in first gear, the car feels like it's about to stall and will begin to jerk violently, as if I had tried to start in third gear or something. Can anyone help me with this?

BTW, my mx has 115,000 miles on it and it still has the original clutch. Is this common? If not, what is the average life for a clutch on these vehicles?

I've never had it happen to me, but clutches do go, and depending on your driving style it could be very easily done? if your always poppin the clutch and such yes it probably is broken and you should have a mechanic check it out, or perhaps start lookin on here for a new clutch. Good luck.

Slipping isn't grabbing too much when accelerating, it is the opposite.

Thanks for the replies guys. By the way, I forgot to mention that in no way has my clutch pedal shown any difference than from before I've had this problem. It doen't make any noise and it bounces right back when depressed. Does this help?
If my clutch were slipping or needed readjusting would I feel a notable difference in how the clutch pedal felt?

ya you'd feel a difference in the peddle, im not sure how much exactly, but you'd feel it.

How much does it typically cost to adjust a clutch plate? What is actually done to the clutch? Can someone please explain this.

i really don't know what they do or how they adjust the clutch? but to have it checked out and fixed i wouldnt think it would cost too much, easily less then $100, unless you need a whole new clutch plate or something which can be costly $$
