Good idea or not?

I have the Apex lowering springs in my 1994 MX-3 and I was wondering if it would be smart to chop some coils out. (The car still sits too high in the back and it looks ridiculous) Has anyone done this before? Is it a good idea or no?

people have done it, i've read in other posts about it. However i wouldnt recommend it. I would be worried about the structural integrity of the springs over time. If you wanna go lower sell your apex's for another brand, thats what i would do.

I would say NO!!! Ive heard horror stories of a cut spring popping off the strut and busting a tire and other damage.

You are right about the Apex springs sitting a little higher on the rear. I don't like it but it doesn't bother me too much.<P>I have also heard a lot of bad stories from people who have tried what you are suggesting. I don't think I would ever attempt it, it's not worth the risk.

Umm, "a couple of coils" is NOT good. If you *must* cut them, cut off a 1/4 of a coil at a time and try it. You'd be surprised how much it will lower the car. However, you're already going to be having suspension travel problems, so i would say no to ANY form of lowering more than the springs. The MX-3, unless using VERY STIFF springs, and aftermarket struts does not see any benefit from lowering over 1.5".
