Loud rear noise

My 93 MX-3 makes a loud noise when I accelerate. It sounds like the rear has mud tires on them. A local mechanic tells me that the struts are out and so are the tires. Examining the tires, I noticed that the outer edges are unevenly worn out compared to the rest of the tires.
Do you believe that the struts are out? So I replace the front ones at the same time? If so, for normal (no modification) driving, which brand for you consider? NAPA (Monro) Sensa-Trac or KYB struts.
Thanks!

I'm 99.99% sure its your rear wheel bearing. You should replace it, I had the exact problem last months and the sound is completely gone. As far as your uneven tire wear is concerned, you probably need a four-wheel alignment, Canadiantire does it for $80 can.
