To all of you that have not been following my fun fun adventure. I blew up my stock tranny about 4 months ago and had a Protege LX ready to go in. I get lucky.....I live about 10 minutes from Corksport and have become good friends with Derrick. I decided to add a Mazdaspeed LSD while I had it out. Derrick said." piece of cake! It will go right in with stock axles....WRONG. Three months later....after getting custom axles for both sides, eliminating the jackshaft, replacing a clutch that had less than 800 miles on it, and both front wheel bearings. I AM ON THE ROAD! My driveshafts are HUGE! Even with a long shaft on the passenger side the car pulls straight pretty hard. We changed 1st and 5th gear to get me better off the line power and a better cruising speed. Ill post pics of the driveshafts soon!!

just curious as to how much $$ did corksport charged you for all this? Did they do like everybody else and ripped your *** off ?

from what i was told it will be around 1200 to 1500 without the 1st and 5th gear. thats the Mazda Speed LSD, custom milled spedo gear to make it fit, and axels, and them doing all the work. i guess it would be worth it if you have the money, or a big enough credit card. and 3 months to go without your car.

i bet you will probably pick up at least 1 sec off of you 1/4 mile. should be sweet. ill have to come down to oregon in the spring when the tracks open back up. i should have the AWD swap done by then. let me know when you want to do it.

It ended up costing a lil over 2k to do it after getting BOTH axles custom made. It was thought that stock axles would fit but the LSD has an odd spline count and the stock Protege axles don't fit. We also had to eliminate the jackshaft and relocate the catalytic converter so the inboard boot on the CV wouldnt melt.

those are pretty massive.
Just curious: i know your fueling issues were the reason for the 180WHP. Did you pick up 50WHP by tuning or did you do some other stuff?

Serious tuning, fuel pressure, regulator issues, and exhaust restrictions.

very nice. Good luck breaking those. How does the LSD work? Was it worth it?

That is a sweet setup.
Us v6'ers are lucky, We can get a beefy drop-in LSD for only $650 + shipping from CZT. Thats what Im buying here before too long if I get slicks.
Just out of curiousity, what is the trans code for the 4 cyl trans? G series right? I know the v6 one is a g series. For the 4 cyl and v6 probes, the innards are interchangeable. I wonder if there is an AWD that could be set up for us with the K motors.
