I got problems.... S-AFC

Post by Franko »

Just to get everyone up to speed on what is going on I bought a bpt for my 93 sohc mx and I have everyting I need bought and am just waiting for it all to come in the mail so I can install it. So yesterday I got my s-afc 2 in the mail and by god this bastard is complicated. The manual is poorly translated from japanese and very hard to understand. So now what I am planning on doing is run the bpt off the stock mx ecu and correct the air fuel mixture with the s-afc 2. Now, I just had a very intresting conversation with jarid who mentioned that I will need a dyno to get this thing up and running properly..... which offically made this the worst day of my life. You see.. we dont have a dyno here. There is only one on the island and get this, it is off limits to the general public... Absoutely no exceptions. It is in a school or something.. they dont even use it.
So what in the christ am I going to do now? How can I tune this without a dyno? And without melting my beloved bpt? Is it possible for me to find someone who has this exact same thing allready done and I could just copy the settings from his s-afc and use them?
If that dosen't work and I need a dyno then someone better do something because I have a date with a flight of stairs.

Here is the s-afc that I have...

Ohh lord god let there be someone who can help me.

You might be able to toy around with it driving around town but you will have to see. I like the S-AFC 2 blacked out man.

I was thinking that you could do that. Like cant you just tune it by looking at the mixture gauge? I heard of someone doing this before..

you "can", but it's by no means accurate. in order for you to get an accurate tune from an a/f gauge, it would have to be a wide band setup. you're best bet is to find someone that has the same setup as you, and go off their settings. most bpt's i know of though are using stand-alone systems.

Does someone know who I can get the settings from? There has to be someone out there who has the same thing done... Someone with a bpt who swapped from a 93 sohc motor and is using the sohc mx ecu with an s-afc. I really really need these numbers... without them I am screwed..

right now i'm running -34% @ 800 to -20% at 6,500 for both low and high throttle. it's working for me (stoich: lights bouncing back and forth during idle/cruising/moderate acceleration). i get into the green when under full boost/heavy acceleration but i think its a little safer that way. basically get your car to idle then tune it at different rpms when standing still, then go out and gradually increase rpms. its good to have an extra set of hands to monitor a/f and tune. lastly be sure to check your plugs!! i was burning to hot so i switched to a colder plug and added fuel here and there now the plugs are perfect.
hope this helps.

I guess this should be said... USE THIS INFORMATION AT YOUR OWN RISK. Everyones setup is different. Timing might be different, octane of fuel, plugs, alot if things might be different. I know that without proper tuning you are running the risk of going lean and blowing a hole thru a piston. Sh*t can happen even if you use shady's numbers. Just wanted to warn you.

shady's running a b6t, and you have a bpt, therefore things are different.

as for colder plugs, i suggest ngk's zfr7f-11

Yeah I didnt notice that until later on. I hope that someone with a bpt and the same setup that I have will see this topic and tell me what his safc settings are. I wish that mx3tt had his car going but I think he sold his bpt.. If anyone knows someone who has the same setup as me, could you foward them to this topic? Then mabey I could get exact numbers.. I think that the b6t is quite different.

How do you know if you are burning too hot?

when your car catches on fire :2thumbsup:

seriously though, get an egt and that will tell you if you're running lean/hot as well. also by inspecting the condition of the plugs after driving.
