not trying to rude, but you've made things extremely hard on yourself by not researching this HUGE task. you now have a motor, but are still missing a lot of parts. the site has a search feature along with a 4cyl FAQ to help you out.

bpt info

Thanks for the info..and by the way nice car...but I heard that for the DOHC MX3's you only need the motor, an ACT clutch and a custom Intercooler...is that true?

I Believe with protege lx and escort gt 1990 to 1995 will have your tranny (front wheel drive tranny that comes off the BP). I dont think the 1996 pro lx tranny will work. The Kia im not sure.

1990-1994 Protege LX and 1991-1996 Ford Escort GT transmissions work. There is tons of info on this site, do a search.

Most of this stuff you dont really NEED. If you are totally serious about getting everything done at the same time then by all means get everthing here but it is to my understanding that you dont need a new fuel pump or an intercooler or a halteck which costs more than the bpt itself. The way that I am going to do it is I am going to get just what I need to get the engine to work for now and then as time passes I may choose to upgrade to better parts.. It is not like I am going to be bringing the car to the track or anything.. it is just a daily driver. If you were to go out and buy evertthing on that list you are guaranteed to spend like $10,000. You do need most of those things on that list but alot of them are optional. The bpt swap is not as bad as it seems. I have been talking to the guys at mazda.. I am even thinking of getting them to install it for me.. they said it would cost like $1000 cdn which isnt really that bad when you consider whats involved.

All I am saying is that right now I dont even care about maximum performance... as long as the bpt works as well as it did when it was in the 323gtx then I will be happy... ...for a while anyway :D

Anyway thats just my 2 cents

Mx3_pr and ryanlindenberg I wish you guys the most best of luck with your swaps.. I hope everything goes well for you and for me. :driver:

it's only gonna cost me like 5-6k. i figure if i'm gonna put it in i might as well do it all at once so i only have to tune it once. and the extra power will be fun too. all i have left is the clutch, haltech, intercooler, and the intercooler/exhaust plumbing which i will have to do after the engine is in.

Yeah man.. I completely agree with you... that is the best way to do it but if you really wanted to get the motor in but your cashflow is not the best right now then you can do it a little at a time.. it dosent seem like as much when you do it that way either..

Plus when you do it a little at a time you appreciate every individual thing more. Like if you did everything at once it would be deadly fast but then to get anymore out of it you gotta spend big money.. but if you just do a little at a time like putting in an msd ignition you will notice it and be like "man this msd rocks" and then you get a better clutch and youre like "man this clutch bites!!" lol well you get the idea.. ;)

that's true but i have 9 months of winter where i live, and no heated garage. i don't make much money but with that much time to save and collect parts i'll be ready to install in the spring. i have a motorcycle too so down time for my car isn't a problem as long as it doesn't rain hard.

the trans from your dohc car will bolt, the only trick is the right cv joint you can either machine the half shaft mount or simply remplace it with a cv joint in one piece from a sohc.

then you will need the bpt a good 200mm clutch set, bpt ecu and some one who really know how to trick wiring.

protege lx wiring as a base wiring + protege lx afm, coil, igniter.

custom intercooler+ piping

new belts and timing belts for a bp dohc

assuming you pay 1600 for engine +ecu

add 1400 for the remianing parts

add the time to do the swap

and it's done.
