Ok what is VRIS ??

Ok this is a forced induction forum, but hoping you guys are technical sorts, i was hoping for a sensible explanation of the basics of the standard V6 engine. I know something clever goes on in the inlet manifold, but what exactly? Can you recommend a book or website?
