Engine replacement project

Post by 94mx3ATL »

'94 DOHC 1.6L turned 140k the other day...body is in too good of shape to just kick this paid-off car to the curb. Problem is I am getting the dreaded blue smoke when starting in temps of 20-40 deg F.

The exhaust also contains what looks like soot/oil in the vapor drops. Yup...I am imaging valves - visually checked the head gasket and found some oil/dirt on an otherwise clean valve cover.

So, I am considering buying a rebuilt engine of same type. Anything to look out for? You know, the questions I don't yet know to ask! Thanks for any guidance.

Why not swap up to somthing with a little bit more pep? I thought that was the point of pulling an engine out. :p )
