Crush bent really that bad?

Post by RedSallad »

I was going to replace my exhaust pipes with 2.25 crush bent because i figure the crushed area will make it around 2" which would be logical for my 1.6 dohc. But all these companies explain that crush bent is so horrible and it hurts performance so bad...

Whats the deal?

Agreed. Get madrel bent and go for like 2.0". That will be good enough and its cheap to have made.

are you SURE that was mandrel bent????? I went to buckys just to have a muffler installed once... and he wanted to build me a 2.25in catback (crushbent of course) for like $150...of course I said no, and a few minutes later, after a bit of negotiation, I had him building me a new catback system...for $100 including tax...so that was cool...but I'm very skeptical of a $150 mandrel bent exhaust...

These guys are wrong, lol.. You won't notice the benifits of the mandrel unless you're highly tuned. Your original idea was spot on, do that. And $140 is always my quote everywhere I ask about a typical crush bent setup as well. Guess we're just in the wrong area..
