Hi, I have a MX3 that I love and want to keep as my backup car. It hasn't seen much us ethe past year as I also have a 2000 Evo Orange Miata. THing is someone chromed the original 15" rims and the chrome has started to flake letting air out the rims.

Can I safely strip the rims of chrome and repaint them? without damaging them further. Was wondering if anyone has had any experience and can suggest anything. At the moment the car is in storage with 2 good front tires, but the air seeps out over a period of about 2 days. Hoping to do a quick fix till I can afford to keep both cars running on the road. (Not allways easy here in CA, with the smog checks and $300+ registration)

I really doubt its the chrome, I'd say take it to your local tire shop and let them try to find the leak for ya. Anouther way is if ya have a pool. Take the wheel off, inflate, and submearge in the water.Watch for bubbles.

Hope this helps; If not just pretend i'm not here.

Peace; Gary

what you are saying doesnt make any sense. Painted chrome falling off the wheels would not cause the air to leak from the tire.

Just bring it to Tire Shop and get them to re-seal the tire for you.

It will take them like 10 minutes max.
