Does MX-3 handle as good as Probe GT?

Post by kmvmx3 »

I currently have a 94 PGT but am looking at the MX-3 since it is lighter. The Probe GT handles very well; however, I have not had the chance to test drive the X-3 gs(94 or newer) yet for comparison. Perhaps one of you who may have both could shed some light here.

Secondly, after dropping a 2.5L klo3 or klze on the X-3, is there room for turbo/SC. Is it worth to go X-3? Help me make my decision. Thanks.

If you think your Probe handles very well, you HAVE to try a MX-3. Once you have bought one, fit good tyres, lower it and you will be a very happy man. :2thumbsup: :2thumbsup:

Jeremy

P.S. I can't recommend Goodyear Eagle F1's highly enough.

It handles wicked good. A little like a go-cart at times, which may take some getting used to. But this is the only front-wheel drive I've ever been able to swing the rear end around on. :2thumbsup:

my mx3 handles better than any probe I've driven, and I've driven a few, including a couple 5spd PGT's with suspension mods and an automatic SE. ALl of them were 2nd gens, i've never driven a 1st gen Probe or MX6.

Probe's suspension is softer than the stock MX3 suspension, plus the MX3 has a more square wheelbase than the MX6/Probe chassis.

Just one problem. Our CV Joints tend to go fairly often. No big deal though! Canadian Tire has em' for $216.90 + $100.00 core charge (Canadian Currency). They come with a lifetime warranty.

Hey,

Thank you all for the needed info. I guess I'll be looking for a 94 X-3 mtx. I'm definietly dropping in a 2.5L possibly klze and will go Turbo. Thanks again for your response.

FYI, like many will tell you, KLZE's a Turbo's aren't a hit combo, although its hasnt really been done, but KLDE's are turbo friendly and cna get upto 300hp

the only car that my MX-3 doesn't handle as well as is my Miata. But other than that even though it's not far off of stock, it handles better than almost anything else I have driven, and this baby is getting in a bit with 170,000 miles on the clock.

has a slight understeer and much heavier in the front than the Miata. And I prefer the rear wheel drive to front as you can drift better and don't oversteer so much. But the MX 3 is a great car that really held together considering mines about 12 years old now, it still looks wicked and not out of date at all. Nice to see hatchbacks making a comeback in the US now too :)

I used to have an MX3 Rs and it did handle like a charm. It was like a real sports car. Alhtough the GS that I have right now is not that great, because the nose is heavier. At high speeds there is alottt of body roll. I was really dissapointed by it.

Confused here.. you saying that some MX-3's come without a strut-bar at the front?

all the ones I've seen in the UK have one.. looks good, sitting across the top of the engine 8)

I would be interested in fitting any other handy bars to mine though, if there are any bits that arent sorted, as standard.. the harder it can corner, the better  altho its pretty damn amazing I find!!

Hey there are a couple of mx-3's in omaha.

We are having a MX-3 meet there on May 21st. Look up (pkmx-3) he is from Belleview. He working on a B6T right now. There are a couple others around there too.

As for the mx-3, The handling is awesome, I just changed my struts & lowered my car. Working on building strut bars right now. If you get a GS, get a KLDE build the bottom end a little & then put a turbo on that. Much easier to do & can pump out around 340hp if done right. I know a guy here in Iowa had a turbo probe GT & that is what he was pushing.

Here is the link to the MidWest meet!!!!
