MX3's

Post by SomeGuy »

I know next to nothing about the mx3 yet, but I've read the forums for a couple days and tried to answer my questions but I can't! Basically I want to know which blocks are in which models in canada. And what is this 2.5 liter and where does it come from? haha so just a run down on the models and blocks possible.

The RS had a 1.6l I4 in both SOHC and DOHC. The GS has a 1.8l V6 DOHC. The 2.5l engines come out of various A-spec and J-spec vehicles.

The I4 1.6L SOHC comes with 88hp and its in 92-94 RS. The I4 1.6L DOHC is 105hp and its in the 94-96 RS. The V6 1.8L comes with 130hp and its in the 92-94 GS. I don't really remember about the 4-cylinder swaps anymore cause its been awhile since I've had a 4 banger but I know theres the 1.8L I4 out of Protege LXs and Escort GTs. I know theres the BPT out of 323 turbos but I'm not sure on HP figures. Sorry. But for V6s there is the K8ZE which is the JSPEC 1.8L and its like 135hp or something (not worth it), theres the KFZE which is a 2.0L JSPEC engine that puts out 170hp with a 10:1 compression. Then theres the 2.5L ASPEC engine out of US MX-6 LSs, Probe GTs, and 626 V6s. This engine puts out 164hp with a lower compression of 9.2:1. I got this engine in my car. :D Then last theres the JSPEC 2.5L V6 which puts out 200hp with a compression of 10:1. Hope all this helps you out. For info on the I4 swaps ask in the 4 cylinder tech forum cause I dont know about them and please give me some stars! I've been here for years and only got 2 stars...

I run my own forum, I know what the search button is. Please don't be rude just because I'm new to this forum. I tried searching and was not able to find a conclusive answer to what's available.

Thanks to Illa Killa, gave ya those 5 stars :D

So how is the stock v6 performance wise? How much can you get out of it with relatively little modification (ie I dont want to try forced induction) and is it very reliable over a lot of km's?

Stock performance wise the V6 lacks power. Its ok but nothing to brag about at all. It can beat Civics except for the Si, it can beat Integras except for the GSR and Type R, it can beat its share of VWs and all but to really have fun with it you gotta swap. The engine doesnt have great potential w/o FI so I'd definitely go the 2.5L route. I like my engine but if it wasnt for the fact that I'm gonna go turbo soon I wouldve gotten a KLZE. (the JSPEC 2.5L) And btw I forgot, the ASPEC 2.5L is a KLDE or KL-03, and the JSPEC 2.5L is called a KLZE. If you dont want FI, go with the ZE. You'd hang with Mustang GTs, S2000s and kill any N/A Honda. (minus the NSX)

I read a ton of them, I got a general idea but then I popped into the forums and started reading about the 2.5ltrs and wanted to know where those fit in. I figured they were a swap but didn't know what they were capable of.

I would rather do FI then a swap, that is if I were to get an mx3. There isn't really anything really high performance where I live, basically just civics, a couple neon's pumped up, and some old integra's and whatnot. Nothing really like s2000's, there is only one mustang that will actually race...so I'm not worried that much about performance, but I would like to sit in the 150+ area under the hood. 200hp would be great!

Right now I drive a 96 ford escort LX with a 1.9ltr I4 so lol well you do the math. I can't mod it though, as it's the parents car...so basically the mx3 would be my own set of wheels if I bought one.

How much would I be looking for a v6 mx3 in ontario with like no more then 150k's on it?

The KLZE is 200 HP. Forced induction is a better idea for alot of cars, but considering there are no prefab turbos, and really no room for intercoolers, it looks like a PITA and woiuld involve alot of tuning.

Thomas Knight Turbos does make a conventional supercharger integrated into a K series intake manifold that might get you close to the power you want, but it's $3500 for the supercharger, plus any labor if you're not doing it yourself.

A KLZE would only be $1000, usually including the intake manifold, fuel rails, etc... everything you need. All you'd need to buy extra would be the eninge computer for that particular engine. Maybe another $200.
