Does anyone know if pressure washing is bad for the cars paint and weather stripping?
I bought one today thats 1200psi and am not sure if it will do more harm than good. What Psi are car wash pressure washers?

Thanks

Do Not, I repeat; do not pressure wash your paint.

Only do your tires and rims with any type of high pressure washer. The amount of force hitting the car actually puts stress on the paint. Thus, leading to chipping. :freak:

Believe me, there si no point to pressutre wash your car, all you will do is degrade and possible remove your paint. Car washes don't use such a high psi as 1200, but still, the less pressure (to an extent, dont worry with a regular hose pressure), the better. A clean spounge/rag with gentle soap is the best thing for paint...followed by wax of course (not polish unless it is faded to hell).

A couple time a year I'll put my car up on jackstands and give a good pressure wash to the underbody. :D

Not really pressure wash related, but I figured i'd chime in.

I haven't used it myself, but I read on a bunch of web forums that that "Mr. Clean car wash" kit kicks a$$ and works like it says it works.

It is an attachment to your hose that filters out minerals in the water and combines the water with the MR Clena solution that you spray on your car. It apparnetly works really well and gets rid of dirt, and doesn't leave "spots" when it dries.

I might buy it, but it is kind of expensive...i think its like $30 for the basic kit, then you have ot buy more and more solution every time you use it.

Thanks for the replies guys. I guess i will return the pressure washer and use the garden hose with a nozzle. I was also considering getting the mr clean car wash. Maybe I will.
Anymore feedback on pressure washers?

I wouldn't take the pressure washer back...it is great for 100's of things. Hell, wish I had one instead of stealing the one from my dad's work every weekend. They are great for rims, driveways, houses, gutters, roofs, the underbodies of cars (just thought of that from mazdubber), and many more things. Just dont use it on auotbody paint... The only thing I use more then a pressure washer, is my air compressor :D .
