from 93 mx-3 se to 93 protege lx

My car **** the bed. I had a GS SE, but the transmission blew and the engine seized. I will be buying my mother's 93 protege lx, but have no idea whre to start with customizing. I can't even find a US car club. Can any one help out? It is boxy and needs a body kit, stat!!!
