alright, here's what i want some of your suggestions on. I'm going to be putting a PSone in my glove box (fiberglassed in, got it cuz it was small/cheap) and a 5.6 inch monitor in where the center vents are (92 dash). i was just curious if anyone had any suggestions or any input on my setup. keep in mind, i'm on a budget here, that's why i'm going with a small screen and a PSone. if anyone has any ideas on anything to make this easier, lemme know. thanks!

looks like your on the right track there
make sure you get a decent monitor
the viewing angle of the chaper ones arent so good, and you might find yourself having to lean over to see the picture
when it comes to a monitor
you get what you pay for
so spend the 250 bucks and get a decent one rather than buying one of those 79 dollar ones off ebay, you wont regret it
look at brands like: emmerson, panasonic, sony, icon tv and i think audiobahn makes some sweet ones too.
also, personally i wouldent glass the psONE into your glovebox, just find a way to secure it tightly (velcro should work pretty good)
that way if you ever want to change it for a ps2,gc,xbox all you gotta do is unplug it, and you can just rip it out at night, or when your car may be unattended for a long period of time
long post
anyway
just my opinion
good luck

I know that you are on a budget, but it would probably be worth the extra money to just put a PS2 or an X-box, so you have a DVD player too.

yea i was thinking the same thing....summitracing.com and jcwhitney.com have some pretty decent monitors for $129 that a friend of mine has...5.6" and comes with an adjustable mount and it looks very good. it'd be cool to hook it up to a switch so that you dont have to reach over to the monitor to turn it off.

the tv i'm getting is made my Tview...pretty decent company, i've seen the screens, and i'm happy with them. i like the idea of not glassing it in, in case i wanted to remove it or change it later, but where would i fit a PS2 up front? that was my biggest concern, the TV will be removable from it's mount, and i want everything else to be hidden. (ps1 in the glovebox, my amp is in the spare tire well, i can pull my radio out in a few seconds, ect). and for DVD, i was thinking about constructing a computer in my car also (there's a post on the board somehwere about that) for MP3s and DVDs. all i need is a TV out card and a decent motherboard, and i'd be set for that...i have all the other spare parts lying around my room.

Why does it have to be up FRONT? Actually, I have not taken any measurements, but you might be able to put it (with some slight mods) in the glove compartment. You might also be able to fit it under the seat...I cannot remember how much room is under the seats. As far as playing MP3 files, you should be able to just burn them into the CDA format and play them in the PS2. Or you can just get a Cd player that plays MP3's....they are not that expensive now.
[ November 15, 2002: Message edited by: RanMan ]

yes the ps2 would be a much better choice since it can play mp3s and dvds also. it'd be less of a hassle then installing a computer in your car.

how would you go about getting power for an xbox or ps2? would you have to modify the electrical system any? I was thinking of making a custom minicomputer..just some cheap suff that can play dvds with a tvout card...how would i get power for it though>?

from experience, cut the plug outlet for the system and hook it up to the proper fuse or relay and then hook it up to a switch. then when the switch is in the on position, you're xbox/ps2 will get power and all you have to do is turn it on. you might want to ask around for the proper fuse or relay to use on a 12v game system.

just hardwire a power inverter to you lighter plug
no need to cut the wires on the system
and if you want dvd
why not scrap the 5.6 for a 7" indash with dvd player built in
it probobly wont cost you much more in the long run
[ November 16, 2002: Message edited by: NoVa ]
