Painting my rims....myself!!!

Post by Brainless »

I have the 15" stock 5-spokes wheels and I would like to know if I could repaint them myself. I know they sell rim paint in spray at CT but I don't wanna mess up my rims just because I don't know what I'm doing. What do you recommend (not too expensive please)?

I did my stock rims 6 weeks ago, bought some rim paint (dupli-color brand) called high performance wheel coating (silver) at walmart and did them. I took the wheels off the car, 2 at a time and cleaned them and sanded old brake dust off them, masked off the valve and tire and then sprayed 3 very light coats on them and let them dry for 10 mins and then used the rest of the can and constantly sprayed them moving around until it was smooth and shiney without dripping or runs. took the center caps out and did those separately, by the way. The cans cost me $3.99 ea and I used 2 cans. The wheels look much better than they did before and brake dust wipes off them like they were new.
If you need stuff done to your tires like new ones or balancing get that done before you paint.
time will only tell how they hold up but so far so good and maybe next year will be able to afford those 16" rims + tires :D
till then they look way better than before.
