alright, I jsut decided that this summer im going to sand down my car and get it repainted. However im sketchy as to what the prices should be. I was told that doing alot of the prep will save you money, however I jsut got off the phone with a reputable painter here in NY, and he says with the prep work done it will still cost around 1200$ to paint my car? does that sound right? I thought prep work would dramaticlly reduce my price, but it doesnt seem like it did a damn thing talking to this guy heh....so any info anyone? is this a good deal or no?<BR>Ryan

Some shops like Maaco will drop the price, but most will not. Reason being, if you do a shitty job on sanding, and I don't resand it and it looks like s---, you can come back to me and I'd have to redo the whole thing. Maaco makes you sign a waiver (I think) that releases them as responsible. I always resand the vehicles so that I KNOW I did a good job. When it comes to cars, I am a perfectionist. Some peeps are not. Make sure you have a reference when you take your car somewhere. Don't take it to one of those fly-by-night painters.

If you personally know the painter, then they will reduce the cost if you help them with the prep... but would you accept a shitty paint job that you yourself sanded??? who's right there? Sanding is the big time labour and that's why if you know them , they'll hook U up - typically under the table and after hours if you know what I mean.

well whoever that was he might have been right in one way cause if someone else would paint it for u they will give u discount but if they are like pro shop they won't give u any discount cause they have to do all the work themselves so they wont have responsibility if your filler cracks or paint starts to flake
