17 in wheel

Just bought a used 93 MX-3 std and wanted to place 17 in wheels on it 17x7.5 or 17x7? Which is possible? Is this possible?<P>Thanks.

Both 17x7 and 17x7.5 will fit.

niether would need modifying. as far as handling, it will improve due to the larger wheels. the larger the wheel, the shorter the sidewall on the tire. shorter sidewalls are more rigid, making for better handling. acceleration suffers a bit from going to a larger wheel but not by much. 16" or 17" look nice on the MX-3. if your performance minded, go for a 16". if you don't care much about acceleration, go for the 17".

I would think that the larger diameter would increase acceleration.

I'm really not positive, it has to do with weight and something about inertia (spinning a larger wheel) I believe. Just think about it, if you have a tiny 10" wheel and a huge 20" wheel, which would take more energy to start spinning?<P>Some people switch to 14" rims when they race because it gives you better acceleration times. However, switching from a 15" to a 17" doesn't slow you down incredibly much. I'd go to 17" myself because I'm not racing. that's a nice idea to swith to 17, but you need to choose the right tire size with it or your speedo will be off. Then 2 solutions: either you keep the same overall diameter (higher diameter fro rims, lower profile for tires) or you get your speedo reset to your new wheels....Also going to larger tires will change your traction and handling: you'll get better traction, but you car will feel heavier to turn, due to the added rubber that contact the road. I like a light fron end, so i'm always riding with a lil tad more pressure that supposed to be.... [img]shrug.gif"%20border="0[/img]

How do you reset your speed? Is it easy or will it require a mechanic's experience?

I Have 17x8 ;)fits nice<BR>reset your speedo? that would involve disassembling your Tranny (hard)<P>could you do me a favor and find tha overall diameter of your stock rim and tire?
