klze/klde valve train specs

Post by babyblueMX3 »

hey guys..I know this could be usefull..Me and skelly on probetalk are completing a full analysis of the ZE heads..I added pics of all the components...this IMO should be stickied or put in the FAQ..here it goes

from skelly:

Okay, here we go. Most measurements are rounded off to the nearest 0.005" because of observed difference between same parts as well as inconsistencies in surface textures resulting in variable readings. I don't have any reference as to OEM specifications, but I expect you'll find these to be pretty darn close except in the case of the inadvertent type-o:

intake - exhaust - measurement

1.705 - 1.830 - valve spring uncompressed height
1.160 - 1.045 - valve spring O.D.
0.800 - 0.750 - valve spring I.D.

0.230 - 0.230 - valve stem dia.
0.175 - 0.175 - valve stem dia. @ clip (jargon?)
1.258 - 1.085 - valve face O.D.
3.745 - 3.745 - valve overall len.

1.110 - 1.000 - spring seat/shim O.D. (jargon?)
0.610 - 0.700 - spring seat/shim I.D.
0.018 - 0.018 - spring seat/shim thickness

0.350 - 0.350 - spring retainer lower I.D. (Note 1)
0.390 - 0.390 - spring retainer upper I.D.
1.113 - 0.985 - spring retainer O.D.
0.320 - 0.335 - spring retainer overall height

1.295 - 1.180 - Lifter O.D.
1.235 - 1.115 - Lifter O.D. @ oiler (Note 2)
1.215 - 1.100 - Lifter I.D.
0.400 - 0.400 - Lifter center pin contact surface O.D.
1.025 - 0.945 - Lifter overall height

Notes:
1. The retainer's I.D. is tapered to use spring pressure to increase pressure on the clips
2. The lifter has a groove in the outer edge. This is the diameter of this recessed groove.

I took some other measurements today..

ze intake ports:
1.85x1.15
corner seems like a 0.35 radius

ze exhaust ports:
1.65x1.02
corner seems like a 0.50 radius

97 a-spec millenia intake manifold ports:
1.81x1.10 (they seems a LITTLE smaller than the ze head intake ports)
66mm neck(parts that meets the TB)

some k8 measurements..

k8 exhaust manifold ports:
1.81x1.21

downpipe:
1.78ID(part that connects to the exhaust manifold)
1.90ID(part that connects to the cat)

kl01 vaf is 60mm

these measurements would be good infos for someone trying to do a port and polish or portmatch anything

Are the curved neck ZE motors the same as the millenia or the same as the all other ZE's?
