Simple timing belt question

Hello. I was wondering if anyone can tell me what would happen to my motor if my timing belt broke? Would it cause more damage or would I be ok? I own a 1993 Mazda MX-3 1.8 V6 which I just bought and love. I don't know the history on the car. Not sure when the timing belt was last replaced. However, the belt appears to be in good shape. Any help would be great. Thanks!!

ya i believe the term is "non-interference heads" so if the belt breaks it doesnt destroy the valves.
