I was woundering if you can take a miata's drivetrain and put it on a MX-3 to make it a RWD...if so...would a miata engine be required?? because of the way its transmission is facing straight...and the mx3's facing sideways. Don't flame me for asking this...because I was just woundering if it was possible.

I seem to remember this question a while back, and the answer was something like:

"You can do anything with enough money, but you won't want to spend what that would cost.

However, for somewhat less, you could look at fitting the 4WD components from a 4WD 323. I think the floorpan would need some hacking around to accommodate the RWD elements."

That doesn't mean to say that the 323 transmission would mate easily with the engine.

I did some reasearch on Mazda 323s.
They started making them in 1986 and ended making them in 1994
Seems to me, they only made the 4WD versions in 1986 to 1989.
In my opinion, its not even worth getting a old tranny that has a crap load of miles from a Mazda 323 just to put it on your MX3 GS and having to rebuilt it pretty soon.
Are there any 4WD trannies that work on our K8s, KLZEs and other Mazda K family engines?

I need to know...

Maybe if you start with an RS...I don't belive the 4cyl and v6 trannies match.

90-91 Protege had an AWD model.

Since our unibody is basically identical to the protege, there is probably a way to take a protege AWD and put a MX3 body onto it
