Does anybody know the gear ratios of the 5 Speed Manual Transmission from a Mazda MS8 (2.5L KLZE).

I know the MX-3 GS has:
1st: 3.31
2nd: 1.83
3rd: 1.31
4th: 1.03
5th: 0.80
Final: 4.39

and I know the 626 2.5L Tranny has:
1st: 3.31
2nd: 1.83
3rd: 1.31
4th: 1.03
5th: 0.80
Final: 4.11

but what would the KLZE Tranny have for gear ratios???

IIRC the KLZE and the MX3 trannies are identical. Have you tried searching?

I think that while the transmissions are the same, they have different gear ratios. Don't know what the klze's would be though.

just found this info on probetalk
the j-spec mx6 open and limited slip have the same ratio as the US mx-6 tranny
mx6 numbers:
1st 3.307
2nd 1.833
3rd 1.310
4th 1.030
5th 0.795
final drive 4.105

What I have heard is that they have a slightly taller 5th gear, but other than that they are the same (so the MX-6 can cruise at a slightly lower RPM)

what causes the lower RPM in fifth gear it the different final drive ratio.

I have search this a thousand times, and everytime I find a different answer.

the MX3 and Probe GT both have the same tranny ratios. The MX6 and 626 however, have lower final drive ratios causing a slight difference in RPM's (from what I've heard, 300 in 4th and roughly 4-500RPM in 5th)

This site suggests that an overdrive was available on the MTX MX-6.

If that's correct, it would give that relaxed cruising everyone wants, and keep the lower ratios where they are for performance.

But I'm doubtful - maybe he means the 5th gear is less than 1:1 - some refer to that as overdrive, but that's fairly meaningless, as what counts is the overall gearing including the final drive, and that's never less than 1:1 .

I've tried searching on this before and have been unsuccessful. It's hard to find reference to MS8 (J-spec MX-6) gear ratios. Well, if the ratios are the same as a US-spec MX-6 then yes that would lower the cruising RPM in 5th. I'd like to find some ways to improve the gear ratios on the transmission to therefore increase acceleration. Might have to check into getting something machined... :confused2:

well basically...5th gear is shorter on the mx3, and on the other ones is longer. Do any of you use 5th gear on the dragway?? Longer gears mean bigger gears..shorter gears mean a smaller gear...i believe...

thats right... the bigger the number, the slower you go vs. a smaller ratio at the same RPM. Its simple math really. Here is a shot of an MX-6 A-spec tranny:
