Leaks in the head gasket???

Post by insanerino »

Hey Guys,
I just got my new car. It's a 1993 MX-3 GS with the 1.8L V-6. But I have a fairly large problem with it. There's oil in the coolant! And I'm losing about a quart of oil every 3 weeks. I'm assuming that the headgasket is leaking, and that's why there's oil in the coolant and most likely I'm burning some of that oil due to the gasket. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, is there any way to help hault the problem without a total head gasket replacement? I have heard of these things called engine coolant supplements. I heard they help reduce and possibly stop minor leaks in a head gasket. Has anyone else heard of these coolant supplements? If so, what is the best? Price is no object if it could possible stop me from a $400-600 head gasket replacement. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hey man sorry to hear about your bad luck... Well my first MX-3 had a busted head gasket too. It does sound like it's you gasket. Does your car smoke white smoke at all or over heat??? If so these are really good signs that your car is having a head gasket problem. One thing you could try is something called liquid glass (or so I've heard) It's suppose to be really good stuff and will seal up most leaks in your cooling system (for awhile) See my 1st mx had that **** up in there when I bought it and I was too dumb to look into it and find out til two months into owning the car I noticed the coolent had nasty brown stuff in it. So I flushed the radiator and bamm white smoke and over-heating. Well best of luck to you fixin your baby. I'm tryin to get mine back on the road myself.
