Hi

I got a k&n filter to drop into my stocl air box for $68cdn brand new. Shall I install it or will it make no difference. Will it change the sound or add any ponies? From searching I can only find info about CAI's or HKS filters.

Thanks

I got one mainly because it's impossible to find even a paper element filter in stock anywhere, and even then, it was like $25 U.S. for a cheap one. The K&N can be cleaned out with the cleaning kit.

Not sure. I replaced it when the temperature was like 110 degrees out. Acceleration sucks no matter what in those temperatures. I sure didn't notice a drop, though.

I found it improved throttle response, and gives a small reduction in fuel consumption. No noticeable noise change.

Throttle body? Did you mean airbox? The TB is on the front of the inlet manifold.

Maybe the leak was always there, but you hadn't noticed it before. Roll a piece of paper into a tube, about 1/2 inch diameter, put it to your ear and see if you can localise the source.

Sorry I meant the airbox. I removed the whole thing , even the ribbed rubber tubing from the throttle body. I will try what u suggested. Thanks

Thanks for that link. Always interesting to see a set of real-life road tests conducted with some degree of objectivity. The manufacturers generally seem to tilt the presentation of data to their favor if possible. I'm not surprised at the paper filter vs "all the others" results but was a bit surprised to see that foam filters didn't compare as favorably.
