450 KM on 40L tank of gas

Post by curtklze »

My gas mileage is got alot better after I got my ZE ECU and replaced my old K8 ALT that had a bad diode, with my 95 Millenia ALT.

now on the HWY crusing at 100 KPH, I can get 450-500 KM on a 40L fill up of gas, and normal driving (80% HWY 20% city with some abuse and some 120 KPH crusing) I get 380-420 KM on a 40L fill up.

alot better than my 250KM on 40L on the HWY at 100KPH that I used to get with my Crapsport ECU and Bad ALT.

:) Im happy now.

Congrats, gettin the right ecu is the only way to go. I hope you weren't runnin like that too long. I think I had my K8 ECU for about a month and a half. I didn't drive the car much though, but it was still a pretty big hole in my pocket. :rant2:

I have a 96 GS (K8) and routinely get 400+kms on 40L.

I average 10-12km/L or so. That is with all stock, 90,000kms.

When I drive the I-5 on occasion I do it at about 140-160 and get about 11-12km/L.

For us south of the border thats 280-310 miles on 10.5 gallons of gas or 28.5mpg.

My ZE is getting much better gas mileage than my K8 ever did. Best I saw on the K8 was 24mpg doing strictly highway. My ZE averaged 31mpg on a 1500 mile all highway trip cruising at ~70mph. With mixed city/highway I see 25mpg. Straight city driving nets me 21-24mpg depending on how much I floor it taking off from lights.

I always wonder what mazda was thinking putting that K8 in our cars instead of the 2.5. We could have had lots more power and better gas mileage to boot.

The 2.5 doesn't cost anymore to produce than the 1.8. Same blocks, same amount of parts. If there is any cost difference its very, very little.

everyone says for 40 l. Do you have only 40 liters tank capacity in the canadian version?
I thought all versions had 50 liters tank capacity, like mine :dunno:

You won't get the last 5 litres out of the tank. I ran out, and it took 45 litres to refill completely.

It's a bad idea to run the car right down to the tank bottom. All sorts of muck down there. 40 litres is a good idea for the usage range.
Re-shaped and re-sized gearshift lever. Best driveability mod you can do!
Extra thick soundproofing in the boot (trunk) to quieten my stainless steel exhaust system :)
