The limited edition miatas had 6-speed transmissions. Their trannys are the same family as ours, but they are RWD. I doubt you could swap the gearsets into one of our bellhousings :( .

Unless there is a custom-made tranny for FWD Mazdas (highly unlikely) we are SOL :(

Actually I heard they are the same. Rob at CZT has been looking into it and found alot of similarities. But why would you want 6 spds? the final gear would be the same as a 5.

Does anybody knows if the gears of the mazda transmissions are interchangeables? I suppose that the ones from the 323 awd will be stronger because they should withstand pulling four wheels instead of two, and that car delivers more torque and horsepower than ours. If somebody have experience on dealing with them and can post pictures of those gears , I actually have a G25 tranny that I can dissasemble and make a comparison between them. That would be a great upgrade!!!

I would love a 6th gear. If I remember correctly I drive at around 85 or so in 5th at like 4500-5k rpm. I'd like a sixth gear I can just drop it in when highway driving and stay around 2500-3k rpm.

Then if your going 85mph in 6th gear your rpms will be at 4500-5k :driver:

Not if the 6th gear was taller than our current 5th gear.
