Motor sputtering.

My engine has been sputtering lately, usually it dose it in the 4-5K rpm range, or when going up hills, it feels like I lose power when this happens. It dose not do this all the time, just every one in a while. There is no jumps in RPMs, and some times I'll hear an air intake back fire. My engine, plugs (NGK-Vs), Wires (NGK), and Dist. cap (generic) have less than 25K miles on them. But to me it seams like a miss fire, anyone else have problems like this?

maybe cause you have dual exhaust, you dont have enough backpressure/low end torque, so it seems that its missing

It was doing it before my exhaust change, Its been doing it for the last year. I was thinking it might be my CAT is bad, but i'm not sure what effect that would have on my car. It really dosen't effect the car that much its just starting to get annoying. Maybe i'll just bite the bullet and give it a tune-up.

How old are your cat and oxygen sensors?

ok, now thats funny. When I bought the car they had just pulled if from a river, that CAT i'm guessing is as old as the car, and the O2 senser your guess is as good as mine. Would eather of those cause this problem?

Depends. Is it really a sputtering, or just a big dip in power before a big surge of power?

it seems to be a sputter, no big gains in power after it sputters. After it starts in sputtering (it only sputters 3k-4k range) it idles kinda funny.

im having mine looked at, at the moment.

They (Enginners) did a self diag on it and its got an #16 EGR fault, apparently the exaust valve isnt doing what it should be.

i honestly dont know what they is or what it does but maybe it might help you?

I'm having a very similar problem.. Except it happens almost all the time now hill or no hill.. I have another car so I havn't really had the chance to look at it, but when I push on the gas it revs up and then just sputters and I can hear the air intake backfire occasionally.

Gummed up fuel pump perhaps.

Check your fuel injectors. Sounds like one of them may be sticking. I have heard of these symptoms under power strain. very easy test. Check the ohms on each injector.

I like how the starter of the thread had this on his car domain

"25th AVD Comarro Convertable **Wrecked in a street race**
DON"T STREET RACE, IT RUINS FINE a-- CARS "

I don't think it's street racing that ruins cars..-cough.- driver..-cough.-

Anywho, Coulnd't the TPS have something to do with it since it's getting pre detonation ? Back firing into the intake around the VAF and Tubing doesn't really seem possible but who knows, crazier things have happened.
