cruise ctrl and check eng. light

My check engine light comes on when I use my cruise control. A lot of the time it goes off after a couple of seconds, but it usually comes back on...it usually only comes on when going up small inclines, then goes off after reaching the top, or going down the other side. It does it at various highway speeds. Does anyone have any suggestions? I thought maybe the problem would be a vacuum line somewhere.
