My review after 4 weeks ownership
Hey everyone just thought I'd tell you my experience with my car after 4 weeks. I picked up my red '93 Eunos V6 a month ago with nearly 100,000km on the dial. I picked it up for a bargain $15,000 Australian dollars after some haggling, and it was a 4 speed auto as well. It looked brand new and was really well taken care of with log books to back it up. Since then I started noticing the engine overheating and I had to constantly top up with coolant otherwise the engine temp gauge will just jump to nearly the red zone and then go back to normal and jump back up to hot over and over.
It turns out the water pump was leaking (boo!) but I had that replaced and since the timing belt was nearby I had that replaced at the same time too to save some cash, ended up costing just over AUD $400 (roughly $180 US) to fix which was surprisingly cheap and the overheating stopped (yay!)
The only other repair I made was replaced a lightbulb on the front bumper.
I also replaced the headlights with xenon optiblue 55/56W H4 and the pure white light gave me a real kick with its hint of blue but the second night I used it it I blew a 30W fuse in the engine bay (boo!). Maybe I bought the wrong type of bulb I'm no electrical engineer. I couldnt' get a replacent from the local tandy but I bought a 55 cent 30amp fuse and stuffed it in the busted fuse connectors and I got the headlights working again (yay!). I showed some electrical engineers I work with the fuse that blew and they told me they never seen it before and it looked expensive to replace...
I REALLY love the engine its a stunner and its great to show other people too, looks impressive too and puts my mates modified 4 cylinder engines to shame. The Smoothness and sound of the engine is excellent, its a huge contrast to my old 4 cylinder charade, and at idle you don't notice that the engine is on (sports exhaust coming soon to fix that up).
The seats are excellent too. It made me realise that sitting in my charade was like sitting on a toilet and my future car purchases must have sports seats in it full stop.
Performance is more than adequate for me the engine starts off slow at the first 2 seconds and gets up to cruising speed (60-70km/h) surprisingly quickly at 3/4 throttle and if i leave it there the car just pins you back as it heads towards 100. I've only ever got it to 140km/h because believe it or not the freeway speed limit here is a measly 110km/h, but I am positive it can hit 180 with ease.
The look and styling of the eunos was what sold me to the car, if you take a look at it you wouldn't know that it is 8 years old.
The sound system is also way above par as well. I had a sub woofer in my old car and after market audio gear but after owning this car makes me wonder if its worth pulling out the stock cd player but right now its no, it has surprisingly good sound for a stock setup.
Handling is great but you all knew that
Things I didn't like is the blindspot, it really is hard to see. I installed one of those round mirrors that has a larger view of the side traffic and kerb which helped a bit. And I'm paranoid about street parking too I give up alot of good city car spots because I don't know where the rear of my car ends from the drivers seat. I also don't like my mags, it was chosen by the previous owner but the rubber is good racing tyres, kumho ecsta 205/15. I don't like the rear seats mine are beginning to split at the seams but its not too bad. Also don't like the stock pedals for acceleration and brake definately needs to be changed. Also although I only pay about AUD$28 for a full tank of fuel it only lasts for around 300km.
Anyway this car is my gem and its got me hooked on sports cars. I honestly think this car is a well kept secret since everyone I know is buying honda accords and civics and Lancers.
If you finished reading this you have way too much time and sorry if i bored you!
