KF-ZE troubles..

Hiya!

I'm swapping a KF-ZE.. But got some troubles right now..

Everything is plug in now.

The KF engine, with the K8 harness, K8 Disty, and KF01 ECU.

The fuel pump works, there is gaz coming in. Spark are good.. But there is no rev.. So the engine die.

We suspect a Firing Order.. We can't plug it in reverse of 180 degrees..

The order on the disty of the K8 and the one from the KF are in different order..

Now, the pistons order, if we look from the from, is something like this..

1 - 3 - 5
2 - 4 - 6

The K8 fires 1 - 2 - 3 - 5 - 4 - 6
The KF fires 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6

Could someone confirm this information to me?

Or maybe point me to direction to look for?

WIll that ECU plug into our harness?

Im going to use this ECU
<img src="http://www.barrykclark.com/pix/GS/KFZE_ECU.jpg" alt=" - " />

when you say no rev, will it idle?

The ECU will plug in..

I tried both ECU.. K8 and KF

And there is no idle..

There is big Pock Pock sound coming from the engine.. from time to time when the starter motor try to start it..

I know we have some wire running around.. as the harness was not on the same side from Right and Left side drive.

There is 3 plugs we are not able to plug in..

2 males 2 pins
1 male 3 pins

But we have the EGR that is disconnected, and the knock sensor..

And we got no where else to plug the left over.

which knock sensr exactly is not plugged in, as for the firing order that should not be a problem, i to am using the kl-de disty who's firing order is also different then that of the kf, check to see if you have spark, and make shure your fuel lines aren't connected backwards, and look into that knock sensor which is not plugged in, sounds to me like it might be a loose vaccum line mine did the samething on my kf-ze and it was actually the line coming off my intake manifold to my brake master cylinder area which was disconnected :2thumbsup:

That pock-pock sound is exactly what I heard when I went to try a car that had a flat battery, and the starter wasn't turning the engine over.

Try charging the battery.

All K series engines fire the same, you have the K8 firing order wrong.

In the end, yes, it must fire 1-2-3-4-5-6...

On the disty, seems it is different..

On the chilton it is mark down this way for the K8-KL :
---4---
5 --- 6
---*---
1 --- 3
---2---

I also have access to a book that tells every firing orders of any Jap engine imported to the US (The KF was not in.. :( )
---4---
5 --- 3
---*---
6 --- 2
---1---

And directly on the Disty of the KF (We got the cover, not the disty..)
---5---
4 --- 3
---*---
6 --- 2
---1---

Now, which one I use?

I'll have to check for the vacuum too..

We reconnected the knock sensor..

But still, the engine won't turn..

The second disty order seems to be right.. it is almost if it will go in Idle.. then die..

Darn :(

Humm, I thought of something..

Which fuel rail must I use?

The KF or the K8 one?

Just by looking at the disty cap your making the wrong assumptions. I just made this pic...
<img src="http://www.barrykclark.com/pix/Kseries_disty.JPG" alt=" - " />

If your KF has an external coil you MUST use the K8 Disty. Check all your ground wires. Start tracing your leads back to the ECU and check the voltages, I think thats where you problem lies.

BTW its impossible to put the Disty in the end of the cam 180 degrees off, because of the way its cut.

Ok,

after verification.. we used the third sequence.. and the firing order is OK..

Now, vacuum? Fuel line? Electric problem?

Humm..

After speaking with someone on the Mx-3 Quebec club who had done some KL-ZE swap told me that, with the information I gave him.. the Alternator is dead..

There is sparks.. but not enough..

He told me something to try to tweak the alternator.. I'll try that.. I'll keep you inform.

The engine should run without the alternator giving much, provided the battery is good. You mentioned the pock-pock noise, and I told you that the noise you get if the starter can't engage, because the battery is too low, sounds like that. Have you checked the battery?

did you connect the fuel lines properly?
Fuel in and out?

you checked the spark, what colour did it have?
blue or orange?
