car dont start right... need some advice

my 93 gs winds over alot before it starts, but it always starts. it turns over prety fast, and always for the same amount of time. the only time it actually starts right is if i start it right after i turn it off. the check engin light is on too, so im assuming it has something to do with it. but other than that the car runs perfectly. i was wondering if anyone else has this problem, or if someone can tell me whats wrong...

possibly an old or weak battery. next time u get a battery get one with higher cranking and cold cranking amps.
