Fluctuating Idle, No Heat and Overheating!

Post by Nd4SpdSe »

My car is acting weird, a little over a month ago, my car was fluctuating idle only when i depressedf the brake, but that was fixed by changing the PCV valve/joint/whatever, it was a $3 part at Canadian Tire
But now its worse, and happens when in idle, brake on or off, clutch depress or not, and does it alot quicker this time too and at any RPM, it reved upto 2500 rpm once.
Also comming home from work tonight, my car's temperature rose to touch the white line on Hot, i was getting no heat out of my vents, i could see my breath, its -10*C out
What could be wrong? Bad temp sensor is my uneducated guess.
[ March 31, 2003: Message edited by: Nd4SpdSe ]

I don't know about the overheating thing, but when i had the infamous "idle problem" which you are facing, it was my timing. If you take it to a shop or something, you should have them check that.

didn't you blow your head gasket?
Do you see white smoke comming out or oil in the coolant?

The overheating and no heat is most likely the lack of coolant. I would check it. My waterpump is gone so I have to fill my radiator everytime I wanna drive my car. Plus I keep about 4 gal's of water in my car just in case. I wanna fix it but to get to it is a B!TCH. But one of these days. I also heard that he fluctuating idle can be linked to your TPS (Throttle Position Sensor). I dunno what the problem with it is, but I heard that is what causes it.
