Who has J-spec 2.0L V6 KF-ZE

Post by wyldside »

I am thinking about replacing my stock GS engine with a J-spec KF-ZE 2.0L V6. I can't afford a KL-ZE 2.5L V6 so I'll have to go this route. Who has experience with this engine or has one? How good does it perform over a stock GS engine?<p>[ March 11, 2003: Message edited by: David Coleman ]</p>

It's KFZE. Barry Clark has one and should be installing it shortly. I believe there is a Presso owner who has one on this board also from HK.

I used to know alot about MX-3's, but not so much anymore. Oh well.

Really... in that case I hope Barry sees this post. I'll have to see how his progress goes. I hope it's not too difficult to do. I haven't performed an engine swap before. My father is an old mechanic but he hates working on newer engines. I've done a lot of engine work before but nothing as extensive as that. I'm sure we'll manage but some guidance and advice would be nice. I'm assuming that it's a simple swap.<p>[ March 11, 2003: Message edited by: WyldSide ]</p>

I have it, Still sitting on a pallet in my garage, still got the metal bands holding it on :( <p>Friday was the day we were going to do start on my motor swap. On my way home I get a phone call from my friend Mark (94 GS auto) telling me his tranny went out and would I come get him. As I was talking to him I said I would and let him go because I had another call comming in, it was my neighbor Jason (93 mx-6 LS 2.5L). He tells me that his motor is knocking.
JUST GREAT! instead of my swap, we pulled his motor and had to go get Marks car and brought it back to my place. I cant even prep my engine, were using my lift and my engine stand for Jasons engine. In my garage, I have 3 motors K8/KL/KF-ZE, and no motor swap :( . He's supposed to be ordering a rebuilt short block, so we can rebuild his. Marks waiting on his income tax so we can do an auto to manual swap in his car. HOPEFULLY I can get on my swap soon. This totally sux, and has ruined my chance at going to Carlisle, cause the car wont be finished by then. Plus Jasons driving my GS until we get his car finished, which delays it even more :( .<p>I'll keep the board posted on my swap. Im either using a KL ECU/VAF with a KL IM, or using my k8 IM/ECU/VAF. I'll try them both to see which runs the best. The KFZE uses a MAF instead of a VAF, and an ECU will be hard to locate.<p>Rob also has this motor, told me he'll be running an aftermarket ECU and MAF, and going to run a 25PSI turbo on his. Dunno how it will hold up especially since it has 10:1 compression(I believe).<p>[ March 11, 2003: Message edited by: Custommx3 ]</p>

Damn... I forgot about the ECU. I hope I'll be able to find one for it. I don't suppose the old ECU from my GS can be reprogrammed for it?

yes, if u can find someone to do it it. I have yet to. They can even program it to 2.0L specs and have it work with a VAF instead of an MAF. its basically a 1.8L, with bigger higher compression pistons, different cams, and different IM.

I have a feeling that Corksport might actually be able to do it. I'll have to ask them.

I guess the only problem is not being able to drive it until you get an ECU for it, or can you somehow use your stock ECU? I email corksport, if I don't get a response soon I'll try calling them tonight.

I juust talked to Ben @ corksport. He tells me they have ahad a KFZE for abuot a year, but noone knows anything about thse engines, so noone has purchased it. He and I seem to think the 1.8L ecu/Im/VAF will work, but you wont get the power. HE also said if anyone can locate one, the can download it and reprogram others.
I forgot to ask if he can change the code to run a VAF.<p>I found this as well. http://www.brownsword.ca/ecucoding.html

Well keep me posted on that. I want to get as much power out of that 2.0L as possible. What are you going to do for yours?

What kind of car is that 2.0L originally from. Maybe we could find an ECU that from a wrecker or something. I wonder how hard it's going to be to get filters and stuff for it on a regular basis.<p>[ March 11, 2003: Message edited by: WyldSide ]</p>

Damn, if that's the case, I won't find an ECU very easily. I wonder if a call to Mazda would help. They might be able work something out. I forgot that they were only from Japan.<p>[ March 11, 2003: Message edited by: WyldSide ]</p>
