K&N instead of airbox... been told could be bad..

Post by khas »

Hi guys, ive been told at tune shop that putting an intake instead of the stock airbox could be bad and could make check engine light come on. But it seems that alot of poeple have a costom air intake on their 1.8 v6. Im asking you if the guy at the shop is right. Have you ever had problems about it / and what to do to fix the problems (if you ever had :) ) Thx for advices and xcuse me for my bad spelling (im french)

Unless you really care about about your hp that much, its a waste of money. Just take out your stock air filter and put a K&N air filter in :) .
[ February 01, 2003: Message edited by: zytariuk ]

ya ive pulled off all the restrictive bits from the air intake and the car sounds really gurgly almost WRX like.
really cool, plus ive noticed a diference from around 3000rpm and up in torque.
Thats not even high flowing the current stock air filter.
so pretty good result

With the stock set up more cold air gets in than with just puttin a cone filter on the end of ur existing intake tube. THe stock set up brings in cold outside air, as u can tell by even loooking at how it is designed, whereas putting a cone filter on the end of your tube puts the filter right next to the engine sucking in hot air. If you really want cold air get a prm set up. However, i heard my friends probe(klze) with the prm(or something very similar), and the intake sounded like stock. So in short, no it wont hurt ur engine, but it wont help it very much either(unless your boosted).
