Ticking In the Engine...

Hey guys i just bought a MX-3 SE recently and there is a tickin noise coming from the engine....it seems to be coming from the passenger side of the engine....i figure it is a loose valve.....or something of that matter....or maybe an off timing belt.....you guys have any suggestions let me know....thanx

Check the FAQ bulitin, it's your lifters, synthetic oil, oil flushing, and genuine Mazda filters help. Most people seem to find thin oil best, mine seems to like thick? - 5w50. Welcome to the weak point of these motors.

I'm running synthetic oil in my engine....mobile one......5w30......i ran that in my last mx-3 and it worked fine......i kinda have a feeling that its loose valves....because be friend had a prelude and it did that.........he had tha valves adjusted and it was okay again....but then again that was a honda......

Get a genuwine mazda filter and keep using synthetic oil....all will be well...

It's your cam shaft friction gear. ~C$1100.00 to have Mazda fix it. Be there, done that :mad:

i know it sounds stupid but it might be that ac compressor. makes a really bad TICKING/CLICKING noise. is the ticking only when the ac is on? very common problem on mx-3s. along with the regular engine tickity tick. :)
