Ok... heres the problem. My car wont start and at idle my lights dim and my stereo turns off when i hit the breaks and sometimes when i turn my heater on. My battery is fine but my charging system is not up to par. What could possibly make my car do this?

The voltage regulator is internal in most modern alternators so I think a new alternator would take care of this without determining whether it's the charging capacity or the voltage regulation that's causing your problem.
Oh yeah, it sounds like you've got electrical bugaboos as well. Got an aftermarket sound system installed by persons of unknown wiring ability perhaps?
[ January 13, 2003: Message edited by: pelado ]

I had the same problem. It started months ago and only intermitently but was starting to become more often
At low idle charge light would come on if I had heater, defroster, radio, lights & brakes on.
It was a bad diode in the alternator.
