1996 V6 1.8L
1996 V6 1.8L
I know there is alot about Turbos and superchargers and stuff. I was really looking into getting something to boost the power of my mx-3. Has anyone used the HKS intake system? I hear it had's a great improvement on power? (but not sure) Also if i where to get a turbo what is the best one for the 1.8L or is it not even worth it. I'd take any advise i can get. thanks all

hey man before anyone rags you out, do a search on it, theres a search button at the top right, its alot easier then asking, you get many instant results to answer your question, in my opinion super/turbo chargers arent practical on a k8, if you have the money your best bet is the klze swap and it'll save you some cash.
Re: 1996 V6 1.8L
Thanks SureShiit. Do You know how much a KLZe swap goes for in Canada? I'll do a search for it also so if ya don't know thats kewl

Re: 1996 V6 1.8L
i hear the foam hks intakes arent as good as k&n. i'd rather get a k&n than the foam intake. however i must admit the hks foam one looks very nice.

Re: 1996 V6 1.8L
Ya man I was pricing it out last night actually and came to the conclusion that the kl-03 is more for me" heres what i got from simply searching on here:
KLZE-$1500CND+shipping from quebec
KL-03-$300-$800(depends were and condition)
Millenia Intake Manifold-$250-$300CND
ECU-$350CND(varies)
Belts,gaskets-$150CND(just a guess)
Clutch Kit-$400CND
Engine Mounts-350CND
Installation-$500-$1000
(all these numbers are from the top of my head its just an idea of what you'll pay)
Now the thing too remember is that the engine is the only thing you absolutely need(as far as i know) so at minimum you'll be paying about $2500 installed. What im doing is getting the engine, clutch and of course belts and gaskets. Then take my time finding a new manny and ecu.
Anyways thats about all i know, anyone else can add to this, and correct any info, thanks.
Tim Dawson
Re: 1996 V6 1.8L
Its not a must do but is a good idea to replace the water pump along with the timing belt while you have the motor on the crate.
That would push your misc costs a little higher.
Andy P. 93 GS

Re: 1996 V6 1.8L
Just some FYI, someone did a test on intake systems and said the HKS foam filters let in a lot of excess crap that the K&N was able to filter out, and still give good performance, just thought i'd let you know that the foam filters aren't the greatest at filtering

Re: 1996 V6 1.8L
Turbocharging a K8 is not really a bad idea. working on a K8 setup is already the same than working on a Kl one, so it´s a matter of time and cash to get a new kl base and smoke ze´s!

Check out A-Spec. They are in Ontario, and have the KL-ZE swap (complete) listed at $3,000. Check their website out at the link below, and click on the Services link.
They also have some cool video clips of their KL-powered 323 drag racing...
A-Spec Import Performance
