While we're on this topic, where exactly is the ECU located, because I tried looking for it, but I couldn't find it, and is an ECM the same thing as an ECU?

I think most klze'ers use their regular K8 ecu (not sure of the exact tech. name) such as dave, and some use the 2.5 ecu from an mx-6 or so, and a few have reprogrammed ones, such as the one corksport sells for 400 bucks that is programmed for the klze.
I think the main difference, is the VRIS points. They are not set properly to really enhance the power curve as much as a programmed one. I remember seeing a dyno graph of the k8 ecu on a 2.5 that had pretty weird dips and blips...not really smooth...anyway this is all that I remember

IIRC the KL31 ecu is from a manual MX-6, and the KL36 is from an automatic MX-6/Millenia. Both will work on a manual car, but only the slushbox ecu will work on a slushbox car. I haven't researched it all that much, cause all stock ECU's blow, cause you can't chip them effectively, so I'm just going stand alone.
Oh yeah, I'm running all K8 electronics at the moment. I used to know alot about MX-3's, but not so much anymore. Oh well.

Would appreciate some clarity on this subject. Everyone seems to say stand alone is better but I'm still not quite sure what it is? Who makes stand alone ecu stuff for the mx-3 with a KL-ZE???

I have a piece about it on my KL page on my site with links. The new AEM unit looks the best.
http://plaza.ufl.edu/mugen23/KL.htm

How much do the other ones run at?
Seems REALLY EXPENSIVE! you can by 2 insain PC machines for that price!!! :p
seems kinda ridiculus...

David, maybe I'm blind but I didn't see any links to the AEM unit on your page. Google helped though ;)
Nic, I found the AEM "plug and play" unit for an RX-7 for $1350 here http://coximport.com/Merchant2/merchant ... 30-1800
However, I have a lot of doubts about the compatibility of an RX-7 harness with an MX-3 harness. I didn't see any AEM units listed for a MX-3, 626, MX-6, or Probe GT. There was another listed for a Miata but the image didn't come up.
I couldn't find a website for "insain", could you provide one for the curious?

I was wondering if we called them, they could possibly either fabricate something to work, or maybe produce something.
